Dutch Crunch, also known as Tiger Bread or Giraffe Bread originated in the Netherlands and was called Tiger Bread or Tijgerbrood. I guess not many people knew what a Tiger looked like firsthand in those days because it definitely looks more like leopard bread!
The bread has a delicious crunchy topping which gets it’s flavor from sesame oil, Marmite or sometimes both. The base of the topping is a rice flour/water mixture which has no gluten and does not stretch to cover the roll as it cooks. The result is a lovely crackly mottled crust. The taste is very umami and they have an incredible fragrance!

Hi, what would be a good substitute for Marmite? Thx
Hi! Just leave the Marmite out if you prefer. The Sesame adds enough flavor even without it.
